Suzuki’s GSXR 750 was one of the most popular superbikes of the 2000’s, with a fantastic blend of athletic performance with handling to match. It features a 150hp inline 4 motor combined with 167kg dry weight. The bike is standard with standard gearing and has a manual gearbox! We took the bike to the airfield to find out how fast it was!
As you can tell, 12 years on the GSXR is still epically fast… 0-60mph in 3.6, 0-100mph in 5.7 and 0-140mph in 10 seconds flat are all really good numbers. Comparable with pretty much any superbike out there and only loses out in the 140 test to the latest 1000cc superbikes. What the GSXR 750 does well is keeping the front wheel pretty planted during acceleration, and the whole experience was very stable throughout, its quite long geared too meaning that 60 we don’t have to change till around 70-80mph and 140 is done in just 3 gears. The hardest part is getting the perfect launch.. in this video there is a potential for a slightly quicker 0-60 time by carrying higher revs off the line as it bogs a little in the first gear, but then again carrying more revs also runs the risk of wheeling which makes it slower and of course there are no electronics. It’s a bit of a fine line with a peaky inline 4, but maybe with a bit more practice I could knock a few tenths off the time and there may be further small gains by changing the gearing, but we are into the small change here. On the whole, the Suzuki gsxr 750 is still really fast and can mix it with pretty much most 2020 bikes with or without electronics!
