Persian Wheel Method of Irrigation | Water Wheel Irrigation System | Rehat in Punjab

Rahat an ancient water lifting technology is still in practice in different parts of punjab Pakistan. This old traditional irrigation method is also known as persian wheel method of irrigation and water wheel irrigation system

Cattle play very important role in this traditional method of irrigation. They not only provide food but also support in farms to complete different task with ease. Bulls or cows are very helpful in irrigation. This ancient water technology system is found in punjab, khyber pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan of Pakistan and Rajasthan, Gujrat Punjab, Haryana, Utter pardesh and many other parts of India.
In this traditional method bulls pull up water from a well or other such source to irrigate the land. Farmers use a large wheel and tie it above the water source or well. Bulls or cows move the wheel and fetch the water up. These methods are known with different names in different areas as water wheel, persian wheel, hydro irrigation, moat, dhekli, rahat or jhatta in Pakistan, India and other parts of the world.
