Scaling-Up Exosomes and Other Extracellular Vesicles
Presented By:
Dr. Derek C. Lenz
Speaker Biography:
Derek C. Lenz currently serves as Sr. Marketing Manager, Biopharma at Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, with responsibilities for communicating and educating the marketplace about analytical solutions provided by Beckman Coulter. Prior this role, he served as Biopharma Specialist, where he assists with implementing analytical solutions to application workflows critical in Biopharma research and manufacturing. Previous to Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, Derek spent eight years at Mettler Toledo, initially as an Analytical Instrument Specialist for the Midwest and later as a BioPharma Specialist, supporting operations in North America and Europe. Prior to that, he served as Product Manager for Accuri Cytometers. Dr. Lenz has also held faculty positions at several different universities and colleges, where he taught a range of biological and medical courses and managed research grants and projects, with a number of scientific observations published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Lenz holds a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. He earned his Doctorate in Immunology, Microbiology & Virology under Dr. Robert Swanborg at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI, and he completed Post-Doctoral Fellowships in Immunology, Microbiology & Virology both at Wayne State University under Dr. Swanborg, and then under Dr. Jonathan Sprent at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA.
Webinar:
Scaling-Up Exosomes and Other Extracellular Vesicles
Webinar Abstract:
The Origin of Biopharmaceutics (Biopharma) derive from The Division of Clinical Research in the U.S. Bureau of Medicine. However, authority is vested in the Division of Biopharmaceutics within the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), and so if generally considered as official onset of this field of expertise. Shortly after, bedrock concepts and parameters were developed and published. Topics ranging from pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism to bioavailability and bioequivalence were established. It is at this point where protocols and regulatory considerations for Scale-Up of Biologics also began. By extension, this is also the point where many challenges in scaling up/out are rooted.
