Meet Lara Lessmann (#BMX) - #Classof22

In Tokio wird BMX Freestyle Park erstmals zum olympischen Programm zählen. Eine kleine olympische Premiere feierte die junge Sportart bereits bei den Youth Olympic Games 2018, in Form eines Mixed-Team-Wettbewerbs, und schöner hätte das Debüt nicht ausfallen können: Lara Lessmann und Evan Brandes holten Gold für Deutschland, punktgleich mit Gastgeber Argentinien. Es ist nicht der einzige Erfolg, den Lessmann vorzuweisen hat. Die 20-Jährige gewann 2018 den Weltcup im chinesischen Chengdu und wurde jeweils Zweite des Gesamtweltcups 2018 und 2019; damit zählt sie zu den weltbesten BMX-Fahrerinnen und größten deutschen Medaillenhoffnungen. Ihr erstes BMX-Rad bekam sie mit neun Jahren von ihren Großeltern geschenkt. Mit ihrem Zwillingsbruder und ihren beiden älteren Brüdern verbrachte sie die meiste Zeit im BMX- und Skate-Park Schlachthof in ihrer Heimatstadt Flensburg, ehe es sie an die Sportschule und in den Mellowpark nach Berlin verschlug. In Tokyo, the BMX Freestyle Park will be part of the Olympic program for the first time. The young sport already celebrated a small Olympic premiere at the Youth Olympic Games 2018, in the form of a mixed team competition, and the debut couldn't have been more beautiful: Lara Lessmann and Evan Brandes won gold for Germany, tied with hosts Argentina. It is not the only success that Lessmann has to show. The 20-year-old won the 2018 World Cup in Chengdu, China, and was second in the overall World Cup in 2018 and 2019; this makes her one of the world's best BMX riders and the greatest hopes for a German medal. She got her first BMX bike from her grandparents when she was nine. With her twin brother and her two older brothers, she spent most of the time in the BMX and skate park Schlachthof in her hometown of Flensburg before she went to the sports school and the Mellowpark in Berlin. She has been a professional since 2010.
