Eternal Father, Strong to Save - Navy Hymn (MELITA) - Berlin Reed Organ

This coming November 11 marks the signing of the armistice (peace agreement) between the Allies and Germany at Compiègne, France, 100 years ago. The armistice took effect at eleven o'clock in the morning - the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month", which ended WWI.

In Canada, we observe this day as Remembrance Day, USA observes this day as Veterans Day. This is why I chose to play "Eternal Father, Strong to Save". This is a hymn that many refer to as the Navy Hymn, written in 1860 by William Whiting, an Anglican churchman from Winchester, United Kingdom.

The tune for MELITA was in 1861 by John Bacchus Dykes lived from 1823 to 1876. He was an English clergyman and hymn writer.

Played on a Berlin reed organ (pump organ) that was made in Berlin, Ontario Canada in 1897. Berlin was renamed to Kitchener in 1916.
