Bob Poli's Fn3 Westside Lumber Co layout tour for NNG 13 April 2021
Bob Poli has created a model of the Westside Lumber Company in large scale ("F") that is well worth seeing. The layout is in a 30' x 40' room and features many of the iconic features of the Westside Lumber Co. including its locomotives, rolling stock, buildings and huge trees to be felled. Bob handlaid all the track, including many dual-gage switches, using aluminum rail and wood ties. His structures all feature meticulous interior detail. Several of the locomotives, including three-truck shays, he scratch-built, mostly from styrene. The large trestle on the layout is nearly floor-to-ceiling. The overall effect, and even the little details, are jaw-dropping!
At the end of the layout tour (at 34'10") he includes a short video of trains in action across his layout. Following that, he engages in questions and answers with the live audience.
This layout tour was part of the fifth in a series of layout tours, clinics and vendor presentations that are being presented by a group of avid narrow gage modelers around the world calling themselves "National Narrow Gage" (NNG.groups.io). We have started this series of presentations called "Off the Beaten Track" to capture layouts located in remote areas that are not likely to be included in future in-person model railroad conventions that may occur after the pandemic is over, as well as informative clinics and vendor updates of interest to the railroad modeling community.
The video was recorded during the fifth Zoom meeting of the National Narrow Gage group, held on 13 April 2021, and edited by Burr Stewart. For additional videos in this series "Off the Beaten Track" see rest of the section of this YouTube channel. If you enjoyed this presentation, consider joining us at https://groups.io/g/nng.
