A Metro Nashville Public Schools special education bus driver was arrested on a DUI charge after crashing into a parked vehicle Wednesday afternoon. Madubiri Nwoke, 75, was identified by police. The crash occurred around 2and22 p.m. near Alteras and Sunnywood drives. The bus, en route to pick up elementary students, had no children aboard; an adult bus assistant riding with Nwoke reported feeling dizzy after the impact. Officers detected alcohol on his breath and signs of impairment during field sobriety tests; he was booked after a blood draw for testing. Nwoke had just returned the bus from morning routes at 11and24 a.m. and left for afternoon routes around 2 p.m. The district placed him on administrative leave as it reviews his personnel record and the criminal case moves forward; MNPS says there is no indication of past issues. The district emphasizes safety and complies with random drug and alcohol screenings.
