Never Alone: A Youth's Guide to Bipolar Disorder (Webinar)

This webinar introduces the Centre for Youth Bipolar Disorder’s (CYBD) Youth Advisory Committee and discuss the booklet “Never Alone: A Youth’s Guide to Bipolar Disorder, Written for youth, by youth”, as well as other patient and family engagement activities at CYBD.

Co-presenter Diana Khoubaeva (she/her) is a Research Analyst at CYBD. Diana graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours BSc degree specializing in psychology and minoring in bioethics. Diana is currently completing her Masters of Social Work degree at the University of Toronto. Diana’s work at CYBD includes supporting the lab’s exercise research, and her own projects exploring suicidality, eating disorders, and psychosocial treatment in youth with bipolar disorder. She enjoys many aspects of working at CYBD, including the cooperative, friendly, and team-oriented nature of the group. Most of all, through the work at CYBD, she enjoys helping to make a positive impact in the lives of youth with bipolar disorder and their families through innovative research, education, and stigma reduction.

Co-presenter Dr. Mikaela Dimick (she/her) is a Postdoctoral Fellow at CYBD. Dr. Dimick studies the neurobiology of suicide risk in youth with bipolar disorder. Her PhD found that structural and functional alterations in reward-related brain regions were associated with self-harm among youth with bipolar disorder. She is interested in using brain imaging to understand how treatments that reduce depression and suicidality among youth with bipolar disorder work, including aerobic exercise, dialectical-behavior therapy, and the anesthetic nitrous oxide (aka “laughing gas”). Dr. Dimick has been awarded the International Society for Bipolar Disorders Samuel Gershon Junior Investigator Award, as well as a CIHR Fellowship Award.
