Mamwi (together, in the Algonquian language)

Update: Elders Louise and Joseph Wawatie were released and there has been a Call to All Nations to unify their voices against colonialism.

1 August 2012: Sureté de Québec arrested Elders who were standing for the Land. Grandmother Louise Wawatie and Joseph Wawatie were arrested this morning. PLEASE SHARE this video widely!

On Thursday July 26, 2012, Mr. Dion (representing PF Resolute - a logging company from Montreal, Quebec) and Sergeant St-Louis from the Surete du Quebec confronted the people of the land, represented by the Circle of Elders of One Nation and the wildlife and culture being destroyed and dislodged by the company's operations.
Although the police officer argues not to take sides, you can clearly see him being the spokesperson of the PF Resolute company, interpreting what the company's employee is saying and adding some thoughts of his own. Please note that that police officer and others being deployed at Barriere Lake are being paid by peoples taxes.
When Jacob (Mowegan) Wawatie explains the vision of the land and of the people of the land, you can see the clash of paradigms. The company, supported by the colonial state, rapes Mother Earth to maximize profits and they don't think for a second in our future generations. Mother Earth doesn't speak colonial languages, like French or English. Mother Earth speaks through Jacob (Mowegan) Wawatie.
The vision presented by Jacob, Monique and Rose Wawatie is a firm and cosmic stand about what it means to be human, to be Algonquin, to be indigenous.
They are good ancestors. We need to follow their guidance.
Meegweetch!
