Hey, Kyle here winthehouseyoulove.com. Today what I want to do is share with you a video from a good friend of mine, Scott Smith. So he just recently purchased a newly built home. Now I know a lot of you are looking at purchasing a newly built home instead of a preexisting one. And I asked him to record a video, sharing his experience.
So the following is going to be Scott sharing his experience all the way from the beginning to the end. So you can hear from somebody who actually purchased a newly built home, what their experience was like going through this. Now in a future video, I'm going to break down some of the ins and outs of buying a newly built home so you can navigate that process a little bit easier, but first I wanted you to see the experience firsthand from Scott.
Hey, my name is Scott and Kyle asked me to send in a video just to kind of talk through the process that my wife and I went through in building our first home, a little backstory, my wife and I, have been married for 15 years and, we started out renting homes, renting.
We actually rented an apartment. Matter of fact, it was low income housing because I started out in my career as a, as a school teacher, I was making, nothing. My wife was still in college. And, so we actually qualified for low income housing. And we started there, a year into our marriage. We had a family, that offered us to be able to rent their house for a year.
And we did that. And then we had the opportunity to buy our first home a couple of years into our marriage. And, so we did that, and that was a great time. We lived in that house for 13 years and it got to the point where we, because we had our son and he was growing up and it was a small house. It was a starter home, two bedrooms, one bath, I'm six foot three and, the ceilings were so low in the house that I could literally palm the ceiling without even having to extend my arm up and so we got to a place where even though we enjoy the property, the location, where that house was at, we just needed a change. We needed something different. And so we started looking into just buying a home.
So we were looking at the housing market going on Zillow, you know, doing the whole, the whole search and, in our area and our market, it was more expensive to buy a home already done than it was to build a house here. And we didn't know that we just assumed that building was going to be way more expensive.
It's going to be out of our league. And, and so we just were, you know, for probably a good nine months to a year, just like, you know, occasionally checking Zillow. And I was getting those daily emails and et cetera, trying to find things. And what I found is like what we were looking for price-wise, it seemed like we were going to pay a bunch of money and there was going to be all kinds of like, it's just going to be a big project to deal with.
