This is why you should always flip your drawing horizontally... CORRECTING YOUR ART #2

Hi guys, It’s Alicja Here, Welcome to my channel!
So yesterday I asked you guys on my Instagram to send over a few of your works so I can give you some advice on it and correct some mistakes.

So Today we are going to review 5 drawings. I got like 100 dms from you asking me to review your art but I could not take all of them, so if you are not included in today’s video, make sure to give this video a thumbs up and share it anywhere you can so I will continue the series and you get a chance to be included in the next video!

First one is from @yaelish_ and the biggest mistake I saw immediately was the eye size which was not the same. It is an incredibly common mistake, so I will show you how I corrected it and compare the before and after.

As you see, this minor change makes the drawing look so much more correct, and It took mi only like 5 minutes to change it. I did not bother to make it look really good when it comes to final touches because I think you will get the point anyway.

The next drawing is from @decemberart... At first sight, you can see that there is something wrong in the anatomy, I thought that some of her head was missing? So I took my liquify tool to correct it and you can immediately see how better it looks. The second issue is the eyebrow. I just take my sketchy lineart brush and draw the eyebrow thicker till the edge of her head. When I corrected it, there was still something.... The shoulders! They need to be broader... I use my Liquify tool and correct that too to show you how much better it looks with the right proportions. Use references and guidelines to avoid those proportional mistakes!

The next drawing is from @emmainee. The things I want this artist (and you if you make those mistakes too) to remember is:
• use the same shadow color everywhere. You can make the colors a little colder and warmer in some places, but sticking to the same shade is still important! In the comparison, you can see that I made the shadows the same shade so the whole drawing feels more... Whole.
• If you want to have texture, you need to do it smart! Don’t let your drawing become “dirty”.
• Try to experiment more with the dynamic. This drawing is not really INTERESTING. But you can make it more interesting if you experiment with the dynamic, just like that material on her neck. I just made it have more volume. I also gave the hair a little more detail.

This one is from Victoria Mazur. I have to say that I love the way you added that warm atmosphere with this nice lightning, you are a pretty skilled artist that only misses out on anatomy. So again, the first thing I do Is flipping the drawing horizontally, and I immediately see the mistakes. I thought that you wanted to give the character more exotic eyes, I brought the right one up and it worked well. You need to keep the symmetry in all perspectives (it’s good to use references, even if your art is stylized).
The biggest issue was the arm. It comes back to learning some anatomy, and even though my correction is definitely not perfect, I just wanted to quickly show you how looking at a reference can instantly improve the whole look of the drawing.

Okay so now we are at the final, the work of @whitecard_art which I really love!
The first thing I wanted to point out and change is the skin that looks dirty. I made everything the same color to create a base for myself and blended out some parts. Try using more saturated colors for shadows.
Another thing is that you should blend out a little more, and when shading, focus on the big areas first, it seems like you focus too much on small areas and try to color like in traditional art. It can really hurt the quality of your final piece, so try to first shade big areas, to give your drawing depth and avoid making it look flat.
The next thing I did was flipping the drawing, and liquifying anatomical mistakes. The last and maybe most important step was adding more color and depth to your drawing. I made a new layer and experimented with some effects. I went for a blue and reddish-orange contrast. As you see the last step really changed a lot, and if I had to choose one thing that would improve your drawing the most, it would be adding some more contrast or/and saturation.

Okay, so this is it for today’s video. I want you all to know that you should not take any of those advices and corrections negatively because everyone will be at this level of skills at some point if they want to become really good. I am proud of all of you for not giving up and seeking help and advice to improve your skills! Yes, also you, watching this.

If you liked this video and would want me to make another one of correcting your art and giving advice, give this video a thumbs up and let me know in the comments which advice did you find the most useful!
