Exploration Drilling Rig

An exploration drilling rig is a piece of mechanical equipment used to drill downward from the surface to investigate subsurface geological structures or to search for mineral resources (such as oil, natural gas, groundwater, and minerals). Its core operating principle involves utilizing a power source to drive a drill bit—either through rotation or impact—to fracture rock and advance into the subsurface; simultaneously, a circulation system (such as drilling mud) is employed to carry rock cuttings to the surface, thereby creating a borehole. Currently, the drilling depth achievable by such rigs ranges from 2 meters to 15,000 meters.
