Tuna and Potato Pie l The Aussie and His Wife😍😉
Tuna and Potato Pie
Ingredients:
1 kg potatoes
1 tin tuna in brine (drained)
1 large onion (finely diced)
1 clove garlic (crushed)
2 stalk celery (diced)
3 tbsp flour
3 tbsp salt reduced butter
¼ tsp dried thyme
½ tsp cracked black pepper
1 tsp mustard (either English or Australian)
1 cup mixed frozen peas and corn
2 cups milk + a little extra for mashed potato
25g packet cheese + onion chips crushed
Method:
1. preheat oven to 180 degree, then Peel and steam potatoes.
2. While potatoes are cooking melt butter in pan add onion,garlic + cook for 5 minutes.
3. Once onion are soft add chop celery, cook for 2 minutes, add thyme,pepper and mustard, stir through until combine.
4. sprinkle flour over onion mixture + cook flour for 2-3 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
5. slowly add milk a little at a time so not to create lumps, once all milk is added cook for 5 minutes.
6. Add drained tuna and break up in pan
7. Add frozen peas and corn, cook until mixture come back to simmering
8. add two cups of cheese mix through ( this will help thicken sauce )
9. Put mixture to an oven proof dish + set aside to cool slightly. Meanwhile mash potatoes with a splash of milk, pepper and butter.
10. Spoon Potato over tuna mixture + smooth out , sprinkle with potato chips then sprinkle with about 1 cup cheese.
11. Place into a preheated 180 degree oven + cook for approximately 30 minutes or until cheese top is nice and golden.
TIPS:
1. Use good quality mashing potatoes
2. For the cheese in the sauce I used half strong vintage flavour and half tasty cheese. I like cheese, so i like to use it but you can lessen or use whatever you prefer.
3. Served with steamed vegetable so or eat on it's own
