Watch 1: Tudor Heritage Black Bay 41 Chronograph
The first watch we’re going to look at is the Tudor Heritage Black Bay 41 Chronograph. Tudor introduced this chronograph at Baselworld 2017. We’re particularly interested in its surprising combination of typical chronograph and diving watch design elements and its then-new chronograph movement.
Tudor’s connection to Rolex and the rich history shared by these brands is one of the many reasons that you can be sure about this watch.
As a part of the Tudor family and the Black Bay Collection, it has everything that makes both the brand and this particular collection so successful.
Watch 2: Zenith El Primero Chronomaster
By the 1960s, Zenith was already an established and well-regarded watch manufacturer with a reputation for producing precise timekeepers.
The company had been making excellent, three-hand movements since the 1940s; however, the idea of developing an integrated chronograph was still just that—a thought. This all changed in 1962 when Zenith's watchmakers and architects started working on what was meant to be the world's first automatic chronograph. The aim was to launch in 1965 as part of the celebrations of Zenith's 100th anniversary.
Of course, as always seems to be the case with grand plans, things didn't exactly go according to plan. Rather than taking three years, the development of the El Primero self-winding chronograph took around seven!
Watch 3: Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Apollo 11 Chronograph 35th Anniversary
The Speedmaster Professional Apollo XI 35th Anniversary, a.k.a. the “Speedmaster Panda,” is one of the most sought-after Apollo XI limited editions. The panda dial is nothing new to the Speedmaster, but more on that later. With a limited production run of 3,500 pieces, this Speedmaster Professional debuted in 2004 and honors the 35th anniversary of the 1969 Moon landing.
Omega puts it best: “… Our pioneering spirit has taken us to the Moon, helped us to conquer the depths of the ocean, and made us timekeepers at the most important sporting events in the world. At the same time, we have always set new precision records and have constantly redefined mechanical watchmaking since 1848! ”
In 1848, 23-year-old Louis Brandt opened a watch assembly workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. In 1879, his two sons transformed the workshop into a factory. The “Labrador” caliber followed in 1885 and has a maximum a daily deviation of under 30 seconds. The year 1892 saw the release of the first watch with a minute repeater, and in 1932, Omega served as the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games for the first time.
