Black walnut season begins: A look inside Hammons Products, Inc.
Across the Midwest, the black walnut harvest has started. Black walnuts, the lesser known cousin of English walnuts, have thicker shells and a more pungent taste. Hammons Products Co., a third-generation family business based in Stockton, projects that about 12 million pounds of the nuts will be gathered this year.
