New Tata Nexon EV 2020 review | Tata Electric car | Tata Nexon EV Price | Carquest

Tata motors launched its flagship electric offering, the Nexon EV, in January 2020.

The Nexon EV 2020 is Tata’s second attempt at an all-electric vehicle after the Tigor EV. While the latter was developed with a focus on commercial markets, the 2020 Nexon EV is squarely targeted at private individuals.

Styling is in-line with the Nexon facelift, with new projector headlamps with LED DRLs, a new grille, a new bumper, and a flatter bonnet to meet the upcoming pedestrian crash safety norms. The new 16-inch alloys are lighter at each corner by almost a kilo. The tail-lamps get revised LED elements, and the bumpers feature some styling tweaks. Completing the EV’s look are blue highlights and tri-arrow design elements across the exteriors.

Inside the nexon electric car, there are few changes to the dashboard aside from the blue highlights. The steering is new, and the instrument cluster is now part-digital, with a coloured display showcasing information related to battery charge, drive mode, range etc. There is a new rotary ‘gear’ selector too. However, it isn’t the most convenient to use, as it is slow to respond and illegible in direct sunlight, which means you have to rely on the instrument panel to see the mode you are in. The seats and space on offer remain unchanged from the regular Nexon; so these are as comfortable as before, with a good amount of support, and well-judged cushioning.

The overall dimensions of the NEW Nexon EV 2020 haven’t changed compared to the standard car, however, the ground clearance is 4mm lower than the standard Nexon at 205mm, due partly to the position of the battery pack

The TATA Nexon EV is powered by a 129PS/245Nm electric motor and like most electric powertrains it is a single-speed automatic. It gets two driving modes: Drive and Sport. Tata claims a range of 312km from a full charge of the 30.2kWh battery. It takes 8.5 hours to charge this battery from 10 to 90 percent using a normal 15A plug point, so best to charge it overnight. But it does get easier if you happen to have access to some DC fast-charging stations where Tata says the battery can be charged from empty to 80 per cent in just 1 hour.

2020 Tata Nexon EV is available in 3 colours: Signature Bluesilver, Moonlight Silver and Glacier White.

The TATA electric SUV is available in three variants, namely XM, XZ+ and XZ+ Lux

Tata nexon ev price starts Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 15.99 lakh. Tata electric car price is also the most affordable electric car to claim more than 300 km of range

The other long-range EVs on sale in India are the Hyundai Kona Electric (Rs 23.75 lakh to Rs 23.94 lakh) and MG ZS EV (Rs 20.88 lakh to Rs 23.58 lakh). While the ZS EV gets the best car warranty package of the three (5-year/unlimited km), it is the Kona Electric that offers the highest claimed range on a single charge (452km).

Tata Motors kick-started the electrification push in the sub-four metre SUV segment with the Nexon EV. The most affordable electric SUV in the country comes with a potent powertrain and a new design language. It drives well, has a spacious cabin with a decent amount of feature too. However, the ARAI claimed range of 312 kilometre doesn’t translate to a real-life driving range. Also, the lack of sufficient charging infrastructure means you cannot plan long-distance trips with the Nexon EV anytime soon.
