Theresa May gives blistering speech on UK's Afghanistan withdrawal

In a blistering speech, Theresa May accused the Government of withdrawing from Afghanistan without contingency planning.

She points out that both the UK and US said they did not believe the Taliban had the strength to take control in the country.

"Was our intelligence really so poor, was our understanding of the Afghan government so weak, was our knowledge of the position on the ground so inadequate, did we really believe this?

"Or did we just feel that we had to follow the United States, and hope that that with a wing and a prayer, it would be all right on the night?" she asks.
