Ian Thomas Band - Pilot (RESTORED / FAN VIDEO)

This was a REALLY tough one to do.

There is no official video for Pilot so I took their July 31, 1981 appearance on SCTV to use, however it was a live performance and the band was clipping along at 129 bpm instead of the album version's 120 bpm. Not only that, their SCTV performance completely skipped the second verse and second chorus in favour of an extended guitar solo outro.

I converted the original 29.97 fps video and converted it to 59.94 fps to get a smooth video for playback, generally around 92.6 to 92.9% of the SCTV version and had to play with the playback speed slightly in each subclip to ensure Ian's mouth synced to the playback. I sourced some vintage 70's airliner clips to help pad out the length of the single edit and then montaged the final result onto a bunch of vintage TV sets, with a couple of the TVs in the background a few frames ahead or behind to give the illusion of a live broadcast.

Ian kind of got boned in 1979 as his label GRT went bankrupt shortly after the release of the album Glider and sadly lacked a serious promotional push as a result.
