Why the Allies Rebuilt Germany with American Trucks 🇩🇪

In 1946, a strange sight appeared on German roads: American-made Fords and Chevrolets, but with German license plates. How? The British Army of the Rhine held 78,000 Lend-Lease trucks. Shipping them back to England was too expensive. The solution? Sell them to the former enemy. Desperate German transport firms bought thousands of war-worn Allied trucks for as little as £50. These "engines of liberation" became the workhorses of German reconstruction. The very machines that defeated the Reich were now the ones hauling the bricks to rebuild it.
