Medina recognized by HGTV as one of nation's best small towns for Christmas

A Northeast Ohio city has received national recognition from HGTV as one of America's "best small towns to visit for Christmas."

For 39 years, Medina has flipped the switch for the holiday season in style.

"I think Medina's got all the right elements for an amazing holiday experience," said George Sam, executive director of Main Street Medina.

In the center of Medina's Public Square sits a gazebo, which is currently filled with a massive Christmas tree that's decorated with ornaments and lights.

"This one is next to perfect," said Medina Mayor Dennis Hanwell.

The festive Christmas decorations around Medina paint a picture of a Christmas movie.

"I think people like the charm of Medina," said Sam.

Mayor Hanwell told 3News that everyone in Medina is warm and welcoming towards visitors. For their main Christmas event, Mayor Hanwell estimated there were 20,000 to 25,000 people in and around the Square.

HGTV said Medina "shines" during the holidays.
