Beethoven's Diabelli Variations, the Schusterfleck, and a Viennese Scandal

The giveaway for this video has ended, unfortunately. Check out future videos for more cool prizes!

In this video we're taking a look at some myths and stories surrounding Beethoven's Diabelli Variations, particularly the "Schusterfleck" (cobbler's patch) and the 1808 scandal that purportedly made Beethoven not want to contribute to Diabelli's Vaterländischer Künstlerverein (Fatherlandish Union of Artist's).

A special "thank you" and shout-out to soprano Josefien Stoppelenburg (https://www.josefienstoppelenburg.com/) for recording Heckel's setting of "In questa tomba oscura."
