My week in Cambridge (reccs from an actual student)

My recommendations come from my beautiful friend Michael! He studied his masters in Classics at Cambridge University. Huge thankyou to him!

I LOVE Cambridge University so so SO much. I loved it when I visited in 2017, and I loved it even more this year. It is smaller than Oxford, but the history is packed in more tightly. The River Cam is superb and the community was amazing!

Full list of Michael (king) recommendations:
Definitely check out all of the old colleges, they’re all on Trumpington Street so if you start near Peterhouse or Pembroke (my college 😌) you can walk up the street and see Queen’s, Corpus, Kings, Caius, Trinity and John’s as well – it is definitely worth entering Kings for the Chapel (do not miss this) and John’s because the grounds are ridiculous (don’t forget to cross the Bridge of Sighs) - for Trinity make sure you see check out the Great Court because it is literally the largest enclosed court in Europe and also enter the Wren Library (it’s free from like 12-2pm and they have super famous original manuscripts on display) - make sure you check visiting hours for all of the colleges online because it’s holidays and they may be reduced [FULL VIDEO ON THIS TO COME]

Fitzwilliam Museum is free and the collection is actually ridiculous, so don’t miss that

If you have time and are nearer to the station, the Botanic Gardens are super nice for a stroll / picnic / reading when the weather is nice

If you’re not eating in college, food is crazy expensive but for coffee Pages Coffee House is my go-to, Hot Numbers is good for brunch; Harvey’s Coffee House is where all of the humanities students go during the day, if you’re over in that direction near one of the faculty libraries.

For pubs, The Eagle is famous and worth a visit because it’s where Watson and Crick went to celebrate after discovering DNA in the 50s; otherwise the Granta is lovely because it’s on the river, as is The Mill; the Pickerel is also super nice (Cambridge’s oldest pub!)

For food I usually ate in college so can’t give the best advice, but Aromi do very good pizza, Tiffin Truck do very good Indian food, Breat & Meat is also good for takeaway; but people will usually eat at pubs
