Hymer B704 SL motorhome review

This is the Hymer B704SL filmed at Dusseldorf. Hymer launched its new generation of its B-Class at Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf and here we see the 704SL version. The Hymermobil B-Class SupremeLine uses the specially developed SLC chassis for this vehicle featuring a high double floor. Thanks to its low dead weight, it has a large payload and the vehicle has a lower centre of gravity aimed at improving handling.

Many changes have been made to the chassis of the new generation of the popular model range in particular. A new, unique chassis design with independent wheel suspension, innovative chassis technology and an extremely light weight – which has been given the name SLC – provides the foundation for the new model range.

“There was a particular focus on lightweight construction when the Hymermobil B-SL was being designed. We want to offer our customers the highest possible payload reserves in the 4.5-ton class as well. This is something we’ve achieved once again this time around thanks to our advanced technologies, such as the new chassis and the Woodwelding® method. Measuring 7.79 metres in length, the new B-SL 704 for example boasts a mass in running order of just 3,390 kg, which means the payload reserves total an impressive 1,110 kg,” explains Jochen Hein, Managing Director of Hymer.

The chassis also has a lower centre of gravity and a larger double floor, which doesn’t have an impact on either the overall height or the headroom inside the vehicle. Similar to a basement, all the technical components are now completely hidden in the new double floor: plumbing and wiring, tanks, all the electronics iand even the heater. Completely closed off and with a smooth surface, the new undercarriage increases the clearance, which significantly improves the aerodynamics, insulation and soundproofing.

The double floor in the new Hymermobil B-SL features a spacious through-loading compartment, which stretches across the entire width of the vehicle, can be loaded from outside and is also accessible from inside through a cellar compartment. In total, this creates up to 998 litres of storage space, which is roughly equivalent to an extra 400 percent capacity compared to similar layouts with a conventional chassis and double floor.

The body uses PUAL technology. The roof can also be fitted with an extra GRP layer, ensuring absolute hail resistance. Safety was always an important issue in the B-Class model range, and it has also been further improved in the new Hymermobil B-SL: new rearview mirrors with a larger field of vision minimise the number of blind spots and the panoramic windscreen provides you with all-round visibility at the wheel. ESP including Traction+ helps the driver when they encounter difficult terrain and keeps the B-Class firmly on the road. Thanks to the independent wheel suspension of the new chassis and the lower centre of gravity, the Hymermobil B-SL grips the road well and has a significantly improved cornering ability which makes travelling in the new vehicle even safer.

The redesigned front section provides the vehicle with an entirely new and unique face, without neglecting the brand’s characteristic design. The characteristic Hymer headlights in combination with the distinctive radiator grille and chrome trim ensure a unique design. The rear section with the integrated GRP rear and its harmonious lines is also new for this class. The familiar LED hybrid rear lights with the integrated Hymer logo are further accentuated by stylish chrome highlights.

The interior of the B-SL is characterised by the ergonomic design of the living area, which offers plenty of freedom of movement, as well as comfort and convenience. There’s a choice of two furniture finishes: Velvet Ash and Grand Oak. While the light colour Grand Oak combined with the white overhead lockers provides the vehicle with a modern look, the dark wood finish Velvet Ash with its fine grain and soft matt look gives the new B-SL an elegant appearance – the tables and counters with the Oriental surface finish are visually reminiscent of precious marble and also provide the living area with an exclusive atmosphere.

The TV compartment is integrated in the backrest of the seating area, enabling a 32" television to be raised electrically and hidden once again, so that the area between the living area and kitchen looks even more open and spacious. The standard LED ambient lighting concept suffuses the vehicle with a pleasantly warm light. The rear wall, upholstered in stylish imitation leather, always looks its best thanks to the indirect lighting. The rear wall, upholstered in stylish imitation leather, also looks its best at all times thanks to the indirect lighting.

The Hymer comfort sleeping system with sprung mattress and 7-zone cold foam mattress.
