PANEL OF EXPERTS FROM NARAYANA HEALTH DISCUSS ABOUT BRAIN TUMOR – ITS DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT

On the occasion of International Brain Tumor Day, Dr. Deepu, Dr. Swadeshi, and Dr. Anurag from Narayana Health Group shed light on the fundamentals of Brain Tumor and discuss its causes, treatment, and diagnosis. A brain tumor is an abnormal growth of brain cells. A brain tumor can be either malignant or benign. Malignant tumors are those that multiply rapidly, whereas benign tumors take years to spread. As per recent statistics, among a cohort of 10 lakh, 10 to 15 percent are diagnosed with a brain tumor. Dr. Deepu explains the symptoms of brain tumors, which include non-specific signs like headaches, vomiting, hazy eyesight, etc. Prolonged persistence of non-specific symptoms necessitates a visit to a brain specialist at least once to rule out a brain tumor diagnosis. The specific causes behind brain tumors remain obscure, but some brain tumors are genetic and can be traced through family history.

The first step is diagnosing a brain tumor, which is a relatively easy step and involves performing an MRI or CT scan. Operations are not the only way to deal with brain tumors as few small and benign tumors are treatable with medications.
