Build Your Own Meteorite Dial Automatic Watch
DIY project of building my own meteorite dial automatic watch using parts I got from eBay and AliExpress.
The 31mm meteorite dial is a slice of the Muonionalusta meteorite. Discovered 1906, west of the border between Sweden and Finland. It hit the Earth about 1 million years ago. Assumed to be older than Earth forming. It was sold for 100$ in eBay store “baltic_beach” based in Latvia.
As the molten asteroid traveled, it cooled in the vacuum of space. While slowly cooling, the Widmanstätten pattern is formed, leaving the unique ribbons of crystalized iron and nickel composites. That ribbons are revealed when the meteorite is cut into slices, then polished and etched with an acid.
The case is homage to the Seamaster 300 “Spectre” with a sapphire crystal. The 12 hours bezel has two proposes; one is that the dial should stay clean but I still need markers, and the second is that I need poor’s man GMT for traveling.
The movement is the trusty Seagull ST2130, 28800 bph, a clone of the ETA 2824-2.
The hands are Seamaster Planet Ocean homage.
