Broken LED Street Lights On My Street Getting Replaced, Part 1

Ever since I moved in, 2 of the 5 LED street lights on my street did not work. This is not an unusual sight around here, the whole neighborhood is like this. In fact, it doesn't seem to be an unusual sight anywhere these LED street lights are used--there are very widespread reports of premature failure.

The street lights in my area are installed and maintained by United Illuminating. There exists a form on their website used to report issues with the street lights. It takes some time to fill out as it requires quite a few details about yourself and the light's location, all the way down to nearby landmarks, intersections, and telephone pole number. I decided to fill it out for one of the lights and see what happens.

To my surprise, the light I reported was replaced with a new fixture within 3 business days of the report. Considering there are probably tens of thousands of street lights they maintain in the area, I was quite impressed. It might have even been 2 business days and I just didn't notice yet. The new fixture is LED of course. The illumination seems superior to the older LED fixtures which are clearly very poorly built. Only time will tell how long it lasts.

This is the second interaction I've had with United Illuminating in regards to requesting service, both experiences were timely and positive. Now that I know they respond to the form, I will proceed to report the remaining failed fixtures in the neighborhood.
