There are 4 situations where you would want this card:
1. If you dont have a credit card at all or have a low credit score
2. If you’re looking to finance a bigger purchase.
3. If you are going to travel outside the US and don’t already have a credit card with no foreign transaction fees like the Chase Sapphire.
4. Fourth you can use this for credit card churning, where you get the card and use it to get the sign up bonus, then never touch it again.
The main benefit is you earn unlimited 1.5% cash back on all purchases. If you’re looking for a better card on this front, check out the Citi double cash card. For a general purpose cash back card you’re going to get a better return because it gives 2% cash back instead of 1.5%. For most situations it’ll be better, but there are some where you’ll still want the Quicksilver
You get 0% interest for 15 months after you open the card. That is really good if you’re looking to finance a larger purchase and want a free loan. So if you’re looking to buy a new laptop or TV, you can open the card, pay with it, and not have to worry about paying off the balance for over a year.
The balance transfer is nice that it has no fee, but this is something that you should only use in really niche situations, like if you’re looking to refinance existing debt and get a credit card with 0% interest on balance transfers (which this card doesn’t have)
The card has no foreign transaction fees which is another extremely useful benefit if you travel outside the country a lot. Most other cards will charge you around 3% on each purchase which will add up very quickly.
The rewards are great that you are able to use it whenever you want for any amount, and they never expire.
The Quicksilver comes with a sign up bonus of 150 dollars after spending 500 dollars within 3 months of opening your account, which is pretty reasonable. 150 bucks is a good chunk of change and spending 500 bucks in 3 months is pretty easy to hit. 2 months worth of groceries alone can easily hit that
The no annual fee is probably the biggest reason to get this card since there’s no downside to getting it. It will lower your credit utilization which will increase to your credit score at no cost to you.
The other thing they offer is premium experiences, where they list discounts and deals on events. It sounds cool, but as someone who goes to a lot of shows, festivals, and even lives near the capital one arena, I haven’t found too many good ones that are worth it. It doesn’t get you any free tickets so you’re still paying for it.
