Dong Ha To The South China Sea

Back in Viet-Nam for the third time and taking a journey down a trail where I was located back in 1968. Major Viet-Nam operations took place their. I was able to pin point locations where I was in battle with the 401st. North Vietnamese Army. Many a Marine died there along with many Vietnamese solders and civilians. I had a guide but he said I was guiding him to locations he was not aware of. I think he was glad the day was over when we got back to Dong Ha, he was beaten and worn out from the places I directed him and the driver to go. I got my moneys worth that day.We entered a small fishing village at the mouth of the Cau Viet river. No foreigners have been there in many many years and our guide was reluctant to take us in. I told him it would be fine and he agreed to take us in. As it turned out we all had a great time. They had a ball making fun of us Americans. For my intrusion in their quaint little village life I bought all the children a soda pop. At first I counted 10 kids but by the time it was over 27 bottles of "COKE" were handed out to a total of 159,929.00 Vietnamese Dong or $7.70 US Dollars. They didn't want us to leave when our driver said it was time to go back to Dong Ha.
