Can-Am X3 Overland: 2,000 Miles Off-road from Phoenix, AZ to Mount Rushmore/Sturgis

Here's a full/sorta write-up and LONG video of our last ride - five states, 2,000+ miles of mostly dirt, gravel, and mud.

Four X3 Max's: left from Phoenix at daybreak on August 1 - took the Great Western Trail north; gassed up in Williams on Route 66, then crossed I-40; camped in the pines near Jacob Lake, AZ the first night; crossed the Arizona/Utah border the next morning; spent the second night just above Loa, Utah.

Crossed under Interstate 70 the third day and spent the rest of the day up near 11,000 feet on the Skyline trail.

We dipped into Wyoming, then back into Utah near Bear lake on the fourth day; Spent the morning of the fifth day in Idaho, then took off across Wyoming on the upper branch of the Trans-America Trail, crossing under I-80 SEVERAL times to get gassed up. Camped a couple nights in Wyoming before crossing the South Dakota border.

GREAT trip - no flats and no belt breaks; no serious mechanical issues at ALL.
This was my second 2,000 mile ride in the X3 Max this summer - the first was a solo ride from Phoenix to the Alberta, Canada border above Montana; took the Great Western Trail all the way up to St. Anthony Sand Dunes in Idaho, then through Yellowstone West and up to the border.

Next month - we'll ride east from Phoenix on the main Trans-America Trail - should be about a THREE week ride to the east coast if all goes well. Anyone who wants to come and is prepared is WELCOME to join.

I've got OVER 22,000 miles on my '17 X3 Max Xrs now - should have over 25,000 by the end of next month - engine, transmission, and diff's have been trouble-free; clutch made it to 16,000 miles with no maintenance and was still working, but worn when I swapped it. The axles made it to 17,000 miles before I swapped them - swapped them all when one went out. And it's still on the original steering rack - I've got a new one ready to install, but the original one is working just fine. It's been an AWESOME machine!

ANY parts that didn't get good mileage before breaking or bending got replaced with aftermarket parts from CT RaceWorx and Hess Motorsports - NEVER a problem with their parts. I'm keeping the steering rack OEM since it did get me to 22,000 miles - though I braced it up with a Hess rack brace to take the slop out.
