Explained: Articles 35 A & 370

On August 31st 2018 , the SC deferred the hearing of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of Article 35A of the Constitution of India. Article 35A empowers the Legislature of the J&K state to define ‘Permanent Residents’ of the state and confer special privileges on them even in violation of the Fundamental Rights under Part III of Indian Constitution.
