Stabbed in the Face Just for Locking Doors — This Is What Britain's Prisons Have Become

A Prison Officer Was Stabbed in the Face Doing His Job. The Attacker Only Got Four Extra Years. That's what today's true crime story will be about.

HMP Whitemoor is one of the most dangerous prisons in England, housing around five hundred of the most high-risk inmates in the country. It has a history stretching back to a notorious 1994 escape, a terrorism-linked attack on staff in 2020, and a ten-hour hostage standoff in 2022. On the 19th October 2024, convicted murderer Moustapha Dia approached a prison officer locking doors on a wing, grabbed him into a headlock, and stabbed him repeatedly in the head, face and neck with a plastic knife.

The officer was taken to Peterborough City Hospital with concussion and multiple cuts. He was fortunate to survive. Dia was already serving a life sentence for killing his sister-in-law. At Huntingdon Law Courts in January 2025, he was found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. He received four extra years on top of his existing life sentence.

This video covers the attack itself, the full history of violence at HMP Whitemoor, the terrorism dimension that has reshaped its prisoner population, and what a four-year extension actually means inside a system where some men have nothing left to lose.
