During a visit to the Game of Thrones set in Belfast back in 2014, Queen Elizabeth II was offered a seat on the iconic Iron Throne. She politely declined .
According to showrunner David Benioff, the reason was a matter of royal protocol. "Apparently, the Queen of England is not allowed to sit on a foreign throne," Benioff explained on Late Night with Seth Meyers .
She was presented with a miniature replica of the throne as a souvenir instead .
