Cayetano Brunetti - Sinfonía L312

Cayetano Brunetti (c1744 - 1798) was a composer and violinist who was born around 1744 in Fano (Papal States, Italy). It is believed that he was born in Fano since his father, Stefano Brunetti, was from this town. Stefano Brunetti died in Madrid in 1777, so Cayetano had come to Spain very young with his parents. It is not known exactly when the family arrived, while Cayetano was yet in Madrid in 1760, and that year he presented himself to the violin oppositions of the Royal Chapel, earning praise from the choirmaster, Corselli and Francisco Sabatini, violinist. On November 27, 1762 he married Saturnina Soria in Colmenar (Madrid).
He is mentioned in the preserved documents concerning his professional activities and private life as Cayetano but, given his italian origin, currently appears frequently in some texts with the italian form of the name, Gaetano.
He spent most of his life at the court of Madrid in the service of King Carlos III and Carlos IV. Brunetti is one of the most important composers of the second half of the eighteenth century in Spain,. His work includes abundant chamber music (sonatas for solo violin, duets, trios, quartets, quintets, sextets) and symphonic music. He also worked for the most important spanish aristocratic houses (the Dukes of Osuna and the Dukes of Alba). He composed especially for the Prince of Asturias, the future Carlos IV, was his violin teacher, musician of his chamber, and finally director of the orchestra of the Royal House.
He had 4 sons (one of them, Francisco, composer too) and died on December 16, 1798 in Colmenar de Oreja (Madrid).
