Dave Blaney - World of Outlaws 140+mph On Dirt! Wythe Raceway.
This is what a 13 sec lap on a big 1/2 mile looks like from the back straight. Ridiculously fast. Dave Blaney at Wythe Raceway Rural Retreat, Va. USA

Back Story. Dave called my Dad, Fred Brown, and wanted to rent the track. I think that he heard about it from his son when we had some Nascar Camping World trucks renting our track to practice for Eldora.
I do the grade work and my dad and I do the watering. Then we use Crown Vics to seal it in.
Dave's hauler arrives and the guys unload and get things ready. Dave arrives a little later, they work on the car, warm it up etc. Dave straps in and heads out onto the track via turn one.
Here is where it gets interesting, I am up top at the pit gate watching. Dave hits the track in turn one and goes wide open throttle out of turn two down the back straight! I have years of experience with this track (my dad built it) I knew without a shred of doubt, that Dave Blaney was getting ready to absolutey destroy a brand new car coming out of four. He never lifted, and he didn't wreck.
Later in the evening my dad was talking with him and commented on that. He said "I like how you take your time to warm up the car and feel the track out..." Dave replied "I knew the moment I went into turn one the track was good." In further conversation, he stated that with his experience and just looking at the track visually he knew it would do what he wanted.
He rented the track a few more times, one night during our normal races, turn four did bite him as he made contact with the guardrail. They had been having numerous problems with the car and had tried to get it running on multiple attempts, something was wrong with the fuel or magneto, I can't remember, but I felt so bad and our crowd felt so bad for Dave, when he hit the wall all you heard was a huge gasp through out the facility. The amazing thing is he saved it, bent the rear axle.
I spoke to him and said that I was really sorry about it, he was very gracious, said that he momentary lost track of where he was in the turn and misjudged the exit. I can see why, visability is terrible in it, basically right out the front and to the left.
He even took the time to meet with fans and sign autographs.
Speed: Dave was doing low 13's. This would equate to an average speed of around 136-138. Top Speed? We didn't have a radar gun, but I can tell you it is well over 140mph. Current super lates are doing 130ish verified down the back straight with times in the 15.50 to 16 sec range, their average speed is 110-115.
