What does he mean when he said we should repent? What is repentance? In essence, repentance is sorrow for sins committed, with a resolution not to commit them again. And I'm sure that you're all aware that it is very difficult to repent of our sins. We tend to be sorry for our sins if we are being injured by them, if we're being caught because of them. But to be sorry for them is an entirely different story. Because the reason for our sorrow, in the words of our Lord, should be because we have offended God who has loved us. Not so much because we will be punished for the sin, but from the fact that we are sorry we have injured the God who loved us.
