Mahler: " Abschied" from Song of the Earth - Janet Baker / Haitink*

Unsurpassed performance of the last moments of "Das Lied von der Erde". Though Klemperer did a great job with Wunderlich and Ludwig- Ludwig is in general very good, but she's making some ugly sounds in her vocal contributions- this version with Janet Baker is the more unforgettable. Haitinks choice for James King was a bad choice, cause King cannot match any other. But his choice for Baker is as satisfying as could be. Listen to : Ich geh, ich wand're durch die Berge or Ewig, Ewig... Haitinks slowening at the end and Baker's pianissimo vocal contributions are making this performance for Ewig........
