What Is Convergent Plate Boundary? Different Types, - oceanic & continental

There are 3 types of convergent plate boundaries. 1. Continental & Oceanic Plate Collision, 2. Continental & Continental Plate Collision and 3. Continental & Continental Plate Collision. We are exploring Continental & Oceanic Plate boundary and the features that we can find at the plate intersections like trench or valley, Volcanoes, Earthquakes and mountains. We also identified these features in google maps and located the subduction zones and the landforms.

This is what happens when Oceanic plate collides Continental plane. The oceanic crust is thinner and is mostly made out of denser basalt rock. Continental crust is thicker and is mostly made out of less dense rock like granite. so the denser oceanic crust gets bent and pulled under, or subducted, descends beneath the lighter and thicker continental crust. At and near this intersection these are the features that we find.

Firstly, A trench or valley is formed at the boundary of collision which is at the edge of the continent where subduction taking place. This is formed at the edge of the continent.

Secondly, volcanoes. The crust continues to be forced deeper into the earth, where high heat and pressure cause the crust to melt forming magma. This magma formed at a subduction zone rises up toward the earth's surface and builds up in magma chambers, where it feeds and creates volcanoes on the overriding plate. When this magma finds its way to the surface through a vent in the crust, the volcano erupts, expelling lava and ash. So these volcanoes form are at some distance from the trench.

Thirdly, Tall mountains. So we see these mountains along this subduction zone (Andes mountain range). When plate subduction happens, the top plate scrapes off the Ocean floor sediments subducting plate and builds mountains at accretionary wedge. Subduction raises the leading edge of the plate by plate tectonics to hills and higher mountains. The flat plains start to raise and become hills and mountains as the plates start to dive under and lift the plains. Mountains of hot magma rises from the depth of the earth to form volcanic mountains. Mountain building processes happen over a long period of time, sometimes millions of years.
Forth feature is earthquakes.
