After the retirement of the Galaxy Note, many of us Samsung power users were left without a good alternative. Folding phones are great, but what if you want an S-Pen? The new Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra looks to be the long awaited sequel to the Note 20 Ultra! With less camera wobble, an S-Pen & silo, and cutting edge specs, there is a lot to be excited about.

Last year, the S21 Ultra was $1200 and the Note 20 Ultra was $1300. I suspect this will be at least $1300
4 BIG THINGS I LOVE
S-Pen is back! I always thought the s-pen belonged in the s-series
Reducing the camera bump is a great move. The Note 20 Ultra was (imo) Samsung’s best phone ever, but the camera bump was a bit overwhelming
Snapdragon 8 gen 1 will be great
supports Snapdragon Sound technology for 16-bit 44.1kHz CD Lossless wireless music streaming (hopefully Samsung makes use of aptX Lossless without needing developer options unlocked)
Up to 4x faster AI engine
18 bit ISP (was 14 bit) so the camera should be able to handle way more data, capture better HDR, and other improvements
8K HDR video capture
Improved efficiency (30%) thanks to 4nm architecture (was 5nm last year)
Promised 20% better performance
Different options!
If you don’t want the s-pen, just get the S22 or S22 plus

3 BIG THINGS TO WORRY ABOUT
Thickness
They fit the periscope 10x telephoto camera inside the body
They fit the s-pen in the body
Somehow the battery will still be 5000mAh & will have 45W charging
Will it be too thick with a case?
Screen wobble while writing with the S-Pen (will the smaller cameras be enough?)
Will the multi-camera bump collect dirt? Will it look strange? Will it feel weird?

S22 & S22 Pro
Likely to cost substantially less (last year $1200, $1000, $800)
I suspect this year may even be ($1300, $1000, $800)
S21 FE is rumored to launch one month earlier, so we will really have a 4 phone lineup to choose from at this time
S22 Pro is likely to have a glass back vs plastic on S22 (to save money)
This phone is honestly a bit disappointing. I think most people will either buy the Ultra or the FE. The middle two phones will offer the newer processor but no boxy design or S-Pen like we wanted to see
The back of these phones are rumored to look almost exactly like the S21 but rounder (which is an interesting phone design but it’s been done before)

Software:
Will run Android 12 with newest OneUI
Theme colors, better widgets, consistency, fewer ads in the software
