Where this Panasonic shines is in its up-conversion of older content, namely 1080p Blu-Rays and 480p DVD discs. I was really surprised by how good my 20+ year old DVDs looked on this player upscaled to 4k.

I also liked how it switched my television in the proper color modes depending on content. Everything is detected automatically so it's just a matter of putting the disc in and letting the player determine the best output format. It successfully passed through lossless Atmos and DTS audio and fully supports 24p playback for both HD and UHD Blu-Ray discs.

It falls short with network playback. None of my MKV files with embedded lossless audio played properly in network mode. It's also limited by its 100 megabit ethernet port - at this price point it's crazy not to have a gigabit. Streaming services play back fine for the most part but if you already have a 4k TV that supports all of the color modes this player supports those apps are likely already built in.

Voice support is lacking - it says it can do it but the amount of work required to issue voice commands back to the player is nuts. I had to set up accounts with Panasonic, agree to a bunch of license agreements and I'm still unsure how to get everything to connect up with Alexa. It's a lot easier to just pick up the remote control IMHO.

So despite some significant shortcomings on the network side it does shine as a disc player which is the primary purpose here. It's probably the best disc player available at the moment. For that it gets 4 stars, losing one star because of its exorbitant price tag.
