"Culotte" is a French word that means the lower part of a garment or knee-breeches.

There are a couple things I really like about this culottes tutorial and pattern --there is an option of adding front pockets to the pants without adding bulk to the tummy and you can easily transform them into long pants by adding length at the hem.
