How to change your Engine Oil & Filter (with Gaia & Faye)

Well, it has been another 3,000 miles on my wonderful daily driver, Gaia, and it is time for me to change my engine oil and filter. As I was purchasing the oil, I was remembering the time that I had first bought my car, and had made up my mind to perform my first oil change myself, instead of going to the quick lube down the street.

I had made a huge commitment to a lifetime of diligent maintenance by purchasing a car 6 years older than I am. I didn't have any clue at the time of the magnitude of this particular - and quite reckless - life choice (selling my perfectly good, newer car, to buy this "barn find" VW while I was road trippin', 3,000 miles away from home and anyone I knew, and had no income) but it was love at first sight for me when I met Gaia, and I knew that she was going to be the project car of my dreams. I wanted to learn about cars by fixing her up, and I had to start somewhere.

I remember being super excited, but also petrified when I bought my first oil filter and jug of oil. The fear, of course, was from the fact that I had no clue what I was doing, and no one to show me. This is the video that 20 year-old me would have loved to watch, and this is for all of you out there who are going through my past struggles and have the courage and desire to pick up a wrench and give it a try!
