Unemployment Update 10-12-20: 6 States Date LWA Unemployment Benefits $8 Billion Stolen $134 Billion

The Labor Department's inspector general recently announced that a whopping $8 billion have been stolen by cybercriminals from state unemployment systems

The Secret Service and Labor Department estimate that criminals from around the world have been fraudulently collecting unemployment benefits, which could end up costing states $26 billion in the long run.

An official from the Labor Department explained: “It was too sweet of a pie for them not to attempt to take advantage of.”

They continued: “There was concern that with the speed at which we were asking states to implement these programs, the size of the benefits, that they would be enticing to the fraudsters.”

Hopefully these fraudulent funds can be reclaimed, as millions of Americans are unfortunately caught up in the bureaucracy and are still awaiting these vital disaster relief funds due to the actions of these fraudsters.

Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and White House chief of staff Mark Meadows wrote a strongly worded letter to Congress yesterday, demanding that they fund a new stimulus package “immediately” with old PPP funds.

With $134 billion leftover in the PPP piggy bank, Mnuchin and Meadows hope to divert those funds, much like President Trump’s executive actions, to provide more stimulus and enhanced unemployment benefits to millions of Americans.

Their letter read: “Now is the time for us to come together and immediately vote on a bill that will allow us to spend the unused Paycheck Protection Program funds while we continue to work toward a comprehensive package.”

They continued: “The all-or-nothing approach is an unacceptable response to the American people.”

I’m all for moving funds around and getting more stimulus, especially if this is just a stop gap on the road towards a real Phase 4 disaster relief bill.

Finally, I’ve got updates on all of the 6 states still waiting for President Trump’s weekly $300 unemployment benefits.

Alaska: I’m hearing that you should start to see your LWA unemployment funds in mid-October.

Kansas: From what I’ve read, you should start to see payments THIS WEEK!

Nevada: Look for LWA payments mid-to-late-October.

New Jersey: Your Labor department announced that you’ll receive a lump sum payment for $1,800 next week beginning October 19th.

Virginia: It’s looking like payments could be coming by the end of October.

And Wisconsin: It’s looking like your $1,800 should be arriving mid-to-late-October.

Everyone else, you should be receiving your funds right now, or have already collected your LWA unemployment benefits.

If you still have not applied for unemployment benefits in your state, begin the week on the right foot and apply today.

Just go to your state’s PUA or UI website, give them your employment history, and let them know that you are out of work due to that thing out there.

It’s worth the half hour it takes to get your backdated unemployment claim, which could be over $10,000.
