"Reimagine That!" ep. 15: "Funny: The Book" author David Misch; "Three's Company" parody "3C"

"Reimagining Funny?" ... "Mork & Mindy" writer and "Police Squad!" executive story editor David Misch blasts to comedy's past while sharing tidbits from his incredibly insightful yet easy, breezy new tome, "Funny: The Book: Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Comedy" (Applause Theatre & Cinema Books/Hal Leonard). In this exclusive interview, this onetime-stand-up comic discusses the process of writing for "Mork & Mindy" and examines fellow stand-up Robin Williams' comic persona as a trickster. (What's a trickster you ask? It's in the book -- and in this podcast, too!) Misch also compares his experience working for (and with) legendary "Mork" producer Garry Marshall and equally revered "Police Squad!" producers Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker.

As he looks forward to moderating a panel on "Women in Standup" at the California Women's Conference in September, Misch traces the rise of women in comedy in television and film. From Lucille Ball to Ellen DeGeneres and Kristen Wiig, this funny screenwriter-turned-academian and author explains how these breakthrough comediennes have leveled the playing field in a classically male-dominated industry.

Finally, Misch explains how all comedy is, by definition, subversive. (Yes, double entendres *are* empowering!) And he previews his booksigning and talk on "The Evolution of Laughter" this Thursday, July 26, at Book Soup in Hollywood.

On a more serious note ... Chris Mann remembers the late Sherman Hemsley and, offering his unique vantage point as the guy who (literally!) wrote the book on "Three's Company," then dissects media and legal controversy surrounding the darkly comic "3's Co" stage parody, "3C." (Oh, what a fascinating revised edition of "Come and Knock on Our Door" does Chris have in store for late 2012 or, more likely, 2013...)

And finally ... our resident dream weaver Yvonne Ryba analyzes the feminine and masculine aspects of a female client's multi-part dream tied to her creative and spiritual rebirth during a period of personal turbulence and transition.
