Antique Century Motor Restoration | 70 Year Old Electric Repulsion Induction Motor Rescued!

Sorry in advance for the funky vertical formatted bits, this video wasn't planned!!

This Century Electric Motor Co. Repulsion Start Induction Run AC motor came to me in the base of my Delta Milwaukee 14" Band Saw https://youtu.be/qy-3kIf52CI . When we first met, she didnt run properly. Tons if noise, insane sparking brushes as she ran, something was wrong! Fortunately, I refused to give up on her! I took her to three electric motor shops, and was told three times to strip the copper out and scrap her. Not a chance! I consulted experts online, was pointed to incredible resources at VintageMachinery.org and set about getting her running. Half of her carbon brushes were broken and NOS brushes for this motor dried up decades ago. Her inner workings were gummed up severely and her moving parts essentially frozen. After a good cleaning and disassembly as well as some sand blasting and Evapo-Rust, she was again internally moving as designed. New cork washers were cut to replace the broken ones and we were nearly back in the fight. I was fortunate enough to meet Scott at REPCO, a New Jersey based carbon brush and contactor switch distributor. Scott has been selling brushes for 30 years!! He was able to find me some precision ground brush "blanks" that I sized and tapered in my mill. They fit like a glove! To celebrate the awakening of this old girl, I made a silly video that blew up on Reddit. I received tons of requests for a video so here we are.
