Amit Patels amazing performance in Indian Dance Festival 2018

Amit Patel is the Artistic and Creative Director of the Amit Patel Dance Project, an organization that exists to unite, inform, and inspire people through the performing arts.

A native of Fremont, California, Amit began his dance journey in 2004. He has trained extensively in Contemporary, Ballet, Bollywood, Jazz, and Hip Hop.

In 2012, Amit continued to pursue dance in college and joined Bliss Dance Company, a Modern & Contemporary Company committed to bringing awareness to women’s issues through the art of performance dance. Since then, he has trained in top dance intensives across the United States, most notably The Nexus Project & Hubbard Street Dance Intensive in Chicago, and the San Jose Conservatory for Contemporary Dance Arts.

Amit taught, choreographed, and danced professionally for Mona Khan Company (MKC) since its inception in 2009. He was also a featured dancer and choreographer in “Soch,” "Between the Lines," and “Awaaz”--a series of Indian Contemporary shows presented at the ODC Theater in San Francisco.

His work at MKC earned him a place to perform on many national platforms, including: the Indiaspora Inaugural Ball in Washington D.C honoring President Obama’s second Presidential term; the top 48 of America’s Got Talent out of 70,000 acts; the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival; and a performance shoot for the international Emmy award winning show “India” on the Spanish T.V Network, Univision.

Recently, he was awarded the Audience Choice Award in the 2016 sjDANCECo Choreo Project Awards Concert, along with Ishika Seth, for their choreography of “Broken Memories – A dance through time.”

As a first-generation Indian American, Amit has had the privilege of growing up in a multicultural society. He uses his training in both Eastern and Western disciplines of dance to create art that has the potential to unite, inform, and inspire people across cultures. His dance style and technique have been influenced by his mentors Mona Sampath Khan, Ishika Seth, Cassie Begley, Brian Brooks, Shannon Hanly, Rojelio Lopez, and Sarah Bush.

As an artist he hopes to continue exploring fusion movement and create a space for Indian Contemporary and other fusion dance forms, recently including Bollywood Heels!
