Indian Child Welfare Program | Generations Stolen | Short | Local, USA

In April 1974, a Senate hearing was held on the Indian child welfare program. Native women - mothers and grandmothers - like Cheryl Spider DeCoteau spoke about their experiences with raising their children. It was eye opening to hear how U.S. policies challenged their very ability as Native caregivers and a community as a whole.

GENERATIONS STOLEN: Native American communities are grappling with the fallout of government policies which separated children from their families. On June 15, 2023, the Supreme Court rejected challenges to ICWA, a victory for Native communities working to overcome generations of trauma. A production of @RETROREPORT.
