In my last smart home video, we successfully installed Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi. In this part, we’ll be adding devices flashed with Tasmota into Home Assistant.
Now, you might be wondering—what exactly is Tasmota? Let’s take a quick look.
Tasmota is an open-source firmware designed for ESP8266 and ESP32-based IoT devices like smart plugs, switches, and lights. It replaces the manufacturer’s cloud-based firmware, giving you full local control. This means better privacy, no vendor lock-in, and faster response times since everything runs locally—using protocols like MQTT, HTTP, or a built-in web interface—without needing an internet connection.
