The death of Bo Fan: BC investigators seek evidence linking victim's employer to her murder

One year ago today, police say a Chinese woman in Surrey, B.C. was brutally beaten to death, in one of the strangest cases homicide investigators have ever seen. Their investigation has revealed the victim worked for a self-improvement organization.

Bo Fan, 41, was dropped off at the hospital in the early morning hours of June 17, 2020, and was rushed inside for treatment but did not survive.

Fan was associated with an organization called Golden Touch, also known as Create Abundance, an international organization with local ties that police called a spiritual group. Chinese authorities say the organization was previously linked to dozens of pyramid schemes in China and have likened it to a cult.

As Jeff Semple reports, the murder mystery is raising questions about the secretive company and its activities in Canada.
