Aishwarya Rai (born 1 Nov 1973), also known by her married name Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, is an Indian actress, model and the winner of the Miss World 1994 pageant. Through her successful acting career, she has established herself as one of the most popular & influential celebrities in India. Rai has received numerous awards and accolades, including two Filmfare Awards from eleven nominations, & she was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2009.

Iruvar , Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya (1997)
Rai made her acting debut in 1997 with Mani Ratnam's Tamil film Iruvar, a semi-biographical political drama, featuring Mohanlal, Prakash Raj, Tabu and Revathi. The film was a critical success.
That same year, she was cast as Ashi, a naive teenager in her first Bollywood film – Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, Both Iruvar and Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya were commercial failures.

Jeans (1998)
In the 1998 big-budget Tamil romantic drama , A commercial success, the film earned Rai praise for her acting & dancing skills.

Aa Ab Laut Chalen, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Taal (1999)
Aa Ab Laut Chalen was a critical failure & had a below average performance at the box office.
Rai starred in the romantic drama Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam which became a significant turning point in her career. A major commercial success & won Rai a Filmfare Award for Best Actress.
Taal was notable for being the first Indian film to feature in the top twenty listing at the American box-office.

Kandukondain Kandukondain, Josh, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke, Mohabbatein (2000)
Kandukondain Kandukondain, was a critical & commercial success and earned Rai positive comments from critics. Josh emerged as a commercial success.
Satish Kaushik's Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai ,the film was well received by critics and did moderate at the box office. Dhai Akshar Prem Ke eventually was a flop at box office.
Mohabbatein emerged as the second highest-grossing film of the year & earned Rai a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress nomination.

Albela (2001)
Upon release,the film and her performance received mostly negative reviews.

Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, Hum Kisise Kum Nahin, Devdas (2002)
After featuring in David Dhawan's slapstick comedy film Hum Kisise Kum Nahin, Rai appeared alongside Shahrukh Khan & Madhuri Dixit in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas.
In India, the film won 10 Filmfare Awards, including a second Best Actress award for Rai.

Chokher Bali, Dil Ka Rishta, Kuch Naa Kaho (2003)
In 2003, Rai featured in two romantic dramas of Bollywood, her brother's production début Dil Ka Rishta, alongside Arjun Rampal, & Rohan Sippy's Kuch Na Kaho.Neither of these films fared well critically or commercially.

Khakee, Kyun Ho Gaya Na, Bride & Prejudice, Raincoat (2004)
Khakee received moderate critical and commercial success.
Kyun! Ho Gaya Na, received positive to mixed comments from critics, but failed commercially. International film critics expressed mixed views on Rai's performance in Bride and Prejudice.
Raincoat met with wide critical acclaim and among other wins, won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.

Shabd, The Mistress of Spices (2005)
Both films received predominantly negative reviews and proved a commercial failure.

Umrao Jaan, Dhoom 2 (2006)
Dhoom 2 Though critically unsuccessful, the film was Rai's first major commercial success since Devdas; the film was declared a blockbuster, and became the highest grossing Indian film of
2006.

Guru, Provoked, The Last Legion (2007)
Guru, A fictionalised biography of Dhirubhai Ambani met with international critical acclaim & emerged as a box-office success.
Provoked though internationally well-received, it was a moderate commercial success in the United Kingdom.
The Last Legion received negative reviews from the critics.

Jodhaa Akbar, Sarkar Raj (2008)
Rai garnered both critical and box-office success with Ashutosh Gowariker's period romance Jodhaa Akbar. Sarkar Raj, the film was a critical and commercial success.

The Pink Panther 2 (2009)
The film received generally negative reviews from critics.

Raavan, Raavanan, Enthiran, Action Replayy, Guzaarish (2010)
The Hindi version (Raavan) & the Tamil version (Raavanan) of the film were shot simultaneously and Rai played the same role. Commercially, Raavanan emerged as a success while Raavan flopped.
Enthiran (Robot) , directed by S. Shankar. Enthiran emerged as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.
Guzaarish, Despite flopping at the box-office, met with positive critical comments.

Jazbaa (2015)
The film received mixed reviews from critics but turned out to be a profitable venture at box-office.

Sarbjit, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016)
The film premiered at the 69th Cannes Film Festival,and received mixed reactions from critics.
Rai's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, received mostly positive notice for her performance despite having limited screen time.
