Hi, this is Dr. Mary Olszewski from Arlington Heights, Illinois and as podiatrists, we are treating problems with nails every day.
What I do, is I take a sample of the nail and I put it in a dry specimen bag that's provided by Bako. And on my Bako requisition, I'm going to fill it out and I'm going to, not only include the higher sensitivity, which includes the PAS and the GMS, but I'm also including in combination the PCR.
The PCR testing is going to correctly identify the most major organisms that are involved in a toenail fungus, and then once I get my result, I can tailor my treatment plan to best suit that patient.
Sometimes, I'm just using a topical combination, which might just be the 1 percent Tolnaftate, but sometimes, I have to also do an oral medication, too.
And we all know how insurance companies are. They all want us to justify what we're doing, so when I get my results from Bako, I can send that in to the prescription drug plan and get those oral medications taken care of. This is how I'm going to effectively treat the patient to get the best results for them.
